The plate shape: eating well without counting anything
Counting works, right up until the day you stop, and almost everybody stops. A shape survives a restaurant, a work canteen, someone else cooking, and a week you did not plan. That is a lower ceiling and a much higher floor, and the floor is what decides how this goes.
The shape
Look at the plate, not at an app.
- Half the plate, vegetables or salad
- Any of them. Frozen counts. Tinned counts. The variety matters more than the choice.
- A palm of protein
- Your palm, not a scale. Meat, fish, eggs, beans, tofu, dairy.
- A fist of starch
- Rice, potato, pasta, bread. It is not the enemy and removing it is why most attempts collapse.
- A thumb of fat
- Oil, butter, nuts, cheese. Enough that the food is worth eating.
Why your own hand
It scales with you. A larger person has larger hands and needs more food, and the measure travels: it works in a kitchen, a canteen and an airport without an app, a signal, or a decision.
Start with one meal
One meal, done consistently, beats three meals done for nine days. Dinner is usually the one you control, so it is usually the one to shape first. Add lunch only once dinner happens without thinking about it.
What this is not
It is not a diet, it has no rules about timing, and nothing is forbidden. It is a default for the meals you were going to eat anyway, and defaults are what survive contact with a real week.
Nothing on this page is medical advice and none of it is a diagnosis. MDRN is a general wellness product. If anything in your health picture needs attention, talk to a clinician.
