Protein at the first meal: one of the three things that happen every day
The first meal is the one most likely to be bread, a pastry or nothing, and the one that sets how hungry the rest of the day is. It is also the easiest meal in the day to change, because it happens in your own kitchen on your own schedule.
Needs: Nothing at all
How to do it
Put a palm of protein next to whatever you were going to have anyway. Eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, last night’s leftovers, a tin of fish. Nothing is removed and nothing is counted.
- The cue your plan prints
- When the coffee is poured, the protein goes next to it.
- What counts
- A palm of protein. Roughly the size and the thickness of your own palm, which scales with you and travels with you.
What goes wrong
Three faults, each written as the fix.
- It becomes a new breakfast
- It is an addition, not a replacement. A habit that asks you to stop liking what you like does not last a fortnight.
- It waits for a shopping trip
- Eggs and yogurt are in every shop and most fridges. The version you can do tomorrow beats the version you can do next week.
- "First meal" is read as morning
- It is the first thing you eat, whenever that is. Somebody who eats at one in the afternoon has a first meal at one in the afternoon.
Where it sits
Always the first of the three. Nothing swaps it out.
Why only three
Because three is what survives the worst day of the month, and a floor that only works on a good day is not a floor. A safety answer can swap one of the three for another or change its cue; nothing can make it four.
The longer version
- Is two sessions a week enough?Yes, if two is what survives a bad week. The honest case for a smaller plan, and why four days often produces less than two.
